The Porte Dorée (golden gate) was the main entrance to the castle up to the 17th century. The route leading up to it is a long avenue lined with lime trees known as Allée de Maintenon, taking you into the château. It was built under Francis I and is composed of two floors of Italianate loggias, one of which has been enclosed by windows for increased comfort, and is decorated with frescoes by Primaticcio, which are still visible.
Perfect for cocktail parties.
