Surviving architectural features

The keep, which dates from 1137, is the most visible remaining mediaeval feature.
Certain interior passageways and spiral staircases set within these great walls are witness to this era. Under Louis-Philippe I, the desire to reconnect with the building’s roots led to the construction of a neo-Gothic-style hallway on the ground floor, known as the Vestibule Saint Louis.
